HEALTH AND HCT STUDENTS.

By AHMED AL HARMOUDI (EG1)

There are a lot of students in the HCT. Their approximate ages are between 18 and 30 years old and more than 25% of them work in different places such as the Municipality, Police, and Etisalat. Most of the students don’t have a chance to look after their diet or exercise.

The main problem that faces the students is unhealthy food. This is due to a number of issues. Firstly, the short breaks. As I say above, over 25% of students work, so they don’t have enough time to go home and eat a proper meal. Not only that but also the college doesn’t give them time to eat. So they search for anything that they find, such as fast foods, snacks, chocolates and soft drink to kill their hunger. From this point, I move to another that is related to the first point, which is the bad quality of food in the cafeteria. The food served is ready-made or frozen. They warm it by microwave and this is a bad way to warm or cook food. What is worse is that there is no choice to pick from.

The second problem is that most of the students take little exercise. This is related to time again. Most of the students are in class focusing on attendance. They can’t leave the class and have 10% absence. They also face study time after they leave the college. Moreover, there is a lack of motivation and no energy too, after a long day of work. The second point is lack of facilities and activities. Lack of education and background have covered the point above. Most of the students don’t know about the facilities and activities. They don’t read the notice boards or see the advertisements around the college. On the other hand there are some facilities available but without a full time trainer available. The students need a coach available at all times to train them and show them how to use the facilities in the right way.

To conclude I advise the students to organize their time. It is difficult but we have to try. The second piece of advice is to try to learn sports by themselves either by reading books or by asking friends. Finally, it betters to bring your own food from home with you instead of eating from cafeteria.
