By Ali Sharyan

Seer Baniyas is an island 250 kilometers away to the west of Abu Dhabi’s and is about 230 square KMS in size. In 1970 work to make Seer Baniyas a habitat began, under the auspices of H.H. Sheikh Zayed. The island contains over 3 million forest trees like Seder and Arak, over 200,000 fruit trees, and 20 hectares of vegetables. In addition, there are various kinds of animals like Arabian Oryx and Giraffe, and over 80 species of birds like Ostrich and Peacock.

AAMC, under the supervision of Dr. Abdulaziz Ayoub, arranged a trip to Seer Banyans, which took place on Nov 2, 2002. Twenty-one students and faculty participated in this trip. A bus and a boat were used for transportation from the college to the island and vice versa. After arriving into the island at noon, students and faculty were taken to the rest house. After lunch and resting the group went on a tour around part of the island for almost 2 hours. In the evening they had a barbecue, and they were entertained by singing accompanied with music performed by some students. On Sunday’s morning, the group took another tour around the other part of the island, which lasted for about 2 hours. Finally, the participants left the island at 3 pm.
Thus, this trip was a new and enriching experience to most of the students and faculty. Moreover, Seer Baniyas habitat is great advantage for UAE. Not only does it attract tourists, but also, it heightens UAE’s reputation of being a country that takes good care of its environment.
